Configuring HL7 Messaging

HL7 services (HL7 Listener, HL7 Processor, and HL7 Sender) keep the patient data in your Imprivata PatientSecure database in sync with the data in your EMR application.

CAUTION: Use caution when making changes to your HL7 configuration. It is the backbone of your Imprivata PatientSecure installation.

To configure HL7 settings:

  1. In the Admin Console, go to Settings > External Systems and Patient Identifiers.

The External Systems & Patient Identifiers page opens.

  2. Select the HL7 Inbound or Outbound system from the list and make changes, as needed.

    The Add/Edit System dialog opens.

    •  The Inbound settings control the flow of data from your EMR application to your PatientSecure database.

System Name Enter a name for the HL7 inbound system.
System Type Select HL7 - Inbound from the System Type list.
      Port

In the Port box, specify the port for inbound data. The default setting is 2244.

      Source system location

In the Source system location box, enter the HL7 value for the source location. This value matches the hospital system sending the HL7 message.

      The default value is MSH.3.

    • The Outbound settings control the flow of data from your Imprivata PatientSecure database to your EMR application.

      NOTE:

As part of the setup of Outbound Systems, you will also need to set up rules that are triggered by a specific action. For more information, see Adding a Rule.

System Name Enter a name for the HL7 outbound system.
System Type Select HL7 - Outbound from the System Type list.
      Host Enter the host name.
      Port

In the Port box, specify the port for outbound data. The default setting is 1.

      Receiving facility

In the Receiving facility box, specify the receiving facility. This value populates the outbound HL7 header segments, usually MSH.6.

Receiving application In the Receiving application box, specify the application. This value populates the outbound HL7 header segments, usually MSH.5.
  3. Click Save.
