HL7 Messages
HL7 messages update patient information in PatientSecure. The HL7 log displays up to 20,000 HL7 messages.
To view HL7 messages:

From the Admin Console menu, select Troubleshooting > HL7 Messages.
The HL7 Messages page displays messages in the last 24 hours (default), with the most recent message at the top of the list. The tabs display Inbound and Outbound messages.
Inbound Messages tab
The message table displays the date, hospital system, and result. The status codes are as follows:

E - Error occurred.

M - Record merged - For more information, see Medical record merges.

U - Record updated.

Locate a message in the list, and then click the message row. The message includes the following information:

Origination and receipt information: Date, sender, received by and received time, processed time.

Message: HL7 encoded message
-
Patient record information
-
Result
-
ACK: Acknowledgment message

Click OK to exit.

To filter the list, select one or more options in the left pane:
Item Description From and To Enter the date and time range for logged events to return, or click
and select the date and then click
and select a time.
Hospital Systems Select one or more hospital systems from the drop-down list. To find a hospital system, click the triangle on the right, and then begin to type the hospital system name. The next matching name appears in the list. Text Search Enter one or more keywords.
Patient Identifier Select one or more patient identifiers from the drop-down list. Optionally, enter an individual identifier number in the adjacent field. Statuses Select the checkbox to show one or more status options. The list is filtered to include only those messages that match all of the options you select:

Merges (status = M)

Updates to patient records (status = U)

Outbound Messages tab
The message table displays the date, outbound system, and state information.

Locate a message in the list, and then click the message row to view the HL7 Outbound Messages Details dialog. The detailed information includes the rule that triggered the event, the outbound system, and the raw event text.

To filter the list, select one or more options in the left pane:

HL7 Outbound System Select one or more systems from the drop-down list. To find the system, begin typing the system name. Show only Select the checkbox to show one or more state options. The list is filtered to include only those messages that match all of the options you select:

A medical record merge may occur when two records for the same person are identified. When a hospital administration staff finds these duplicate records, they perform a medical record merge in their hospital information system. The system then notifies all downstream systems, including Imprivata PatientSecure, about this merge, via HL7. Imprivata PatientSecure processes the merge differently, depending on the state of the surviving medical record and non-surviving medical record:

When both the non-surviving and surviving medical records are enrolled in Imprivata PatientSecure, the survivor is kept and the non-survivor is deleted.

When only the non-surviving medical record is enrolled in the system, the non-survivor ID is replaced with the survivor ID. As a result, the biometric of the non-surviving medical record is attached to the surviving medical record.
